Kinship Ritual

the art of facilitating death and grief

· women,business,entrepreneurship,small business,networking

Death, dying and funerals and the different ways people respond to these events are fascinating to me. At a recent Women's Table lunch we were joined by Annie Bolitho who recognised the funeral industry was offering limited support to people going through the process.

Annie's business is Kinship Ritual. She organises tailored funerals, vigils, and celebrant/MC services. It builds on a long career facilitating conversations that matter in the workplace. After a friend asked for help to negotiate a funeral, Annie realised she could utilise her skills to help people to have realistic dialogue when facing the emotional terrain of death and its practical requirements.

One of the issues Annie raised at the table was the challenge of generating business since people may enjoy a funeral but not remember who did such a great job a few years' later.

There were numerous creative women at the table with an interest in the ritual of ceremony and art of celebration and sorrowing. Annie facilitates Death Cafe in Melbourne and the next is coming up soon - on the 13th December. Bookings here.
